*Bengkung Belly Binding*
Bengkung belly binding is the art of wrapping a postpartum women's belly for physical support and to help hasten the recovery process after childbirth. This belly binding technique uses a long strip of cloth to wrap (cotton/ muslin) around the abdomen from the hips to the ribcage. For Best Results
Women should be wrapped as soon they can after birth, ideally on day five postpartum. The belly bind should be worn daily for 10-12 hours a day for at least 40 days or longer. Often women who use a belly bind after birth return to their own pre-pregnancy size in 6-8 weeks.
After a cesarean birth women should wait at least until the incision is mostly healed before they are wrapped.

Wear Comfortable Clothes
Please wear comfortable clothes during your belly binding session. It is ideal to wrap the belly bind over your clothes. We recommend that you wear form fitting clothes without buttons or zippers and a shirt that is appropriate for nursing.

The Process
A special warming herbal paste is applied directly to the abdomen before wrapping.
We use Healing Alchemy Firming & Tightening Belly Balm is a highly effective mixture of herbs and oils known for their skin healing, tightening, rejuvenating, and closing properties - locking in moisture to repair the skin, on more than just the surface level, while allowing the largest eliminative organ on your body to still breathe and detoxify.
The wrap is typically worn for forty days. In our western society women are wra.pped for three to five days and then it is their own personal choice to learn and continue the daily wrap. Essential oils may be used instead of herbs. Belly binding is powerfully healing!
It physically heals the body and emotionally honors the mother during the immediate postpartum period.

On a Personal Note:
My daughter actually encouraged me to use her progression pictures- very brave, right? Why? Because she felt it important to share the results & love!

First application of belly bind at 1 week postpartum
Her 5th application at
3 wks postpartum - she was thrilled with the results!

"I was very soar after my c-section with my first son. I was initially nervous about getting the wrap bc I feared it would be painful and I was nervous about the scar healing.

Yet the treatment was so gentle and gave me the support I needed to move more freely. I also purchased one of those belly bands on Instagram; but the band didn’t cover my whole torso which left it pooching around my scar or below my ribs. It was also uncomfortable.
My belly bind covered my whole torso and around my hips with gentle restriction. Massaging my scar and midsection reassured me I could do the same without pain. I know it was key to my scar healing expeditiously and to pulling all my bits back to where they belong. "

When NOT to bind
There are a few times when belly binding of any kind is not a good idea. You should always check with your health care provider if you have questions if it’s right for you or problems arise. Here are a few common scenarios to be aware of:
C-Section
You can ABSOLUTELY still use a Bengkung belly bind after a c-section! However, you should wait until your incision heals. Usually, 4-6 weeks is the recommendation for c-section moms but some bind as soon as 1 week if comfortable and incision is healed. it’s always a good idea to get the OK from your provider whenever recovery from major surgery is involved.

Pelvic Organ Prolapse
If you know you have pelvic organ prolapse, you definitely shouldn’t belly bind.
When wearing the Bengkung belly bind or afterward if you feel a pulling sensation or heaviness in your vagina or perineum, you might be experiencing a little prolapse.
If you tie the wrap too tight or don’t go all the way down including the hips, it puts a lot of pressure on your midsection which pushes your internal organs down. Your pelvic floor is already weakened from childbirth, so it’s an easy spot for organs to go if they’re being pushed out of the way! You can try again with the wrap looser and making sure to go all the way down to the pubic bone, but always go see a health care professional if you think you might be experiencing prolapse.

Hemorrhoids
You can bind, but you do need to be gentle at first. Almost every mom who just went through a pregnancy and childbirth has experienced hemorrhoids. During inflammation, we want to go light on the pressure we use when binding your belly. Extra pressure on the abdomen sends blood downward to get trapped in the happy little hemorrhoids, no fun!
So, it's usually not a problem, but we bind lightly at first and we increase the tightness as your hemorrhoids continue to heal.

Pain
Belly Binding should not hurt or causes other unusual symptoms. If you’re fine medically, the most likely culprit is that the wrap is too tight or wrapped wrong.
The intent of Bengkung belly binding is not to be a waist trainer or fat-melter. It is to support your body as you heal and warm the abdomen after delivery.
Bengkung belly binding is a wonderful way to heal, honor, and warm your body after childbirth. But honestly, you can do this anytime! Some women use their Bengkung belly binds years after birth to heal diastasis recti, provide lower back support, and many other things. It’s so comfortable and supportive to the body and mind, it a technique that is always there for you!
