You Hatch'em, We Latch'em
30 years experience helping new moms

The idea for Postpartum Place was conceived by Maria Parlapiano RN, IBCLC in direct response to the implementation of early hospital discharge for newly delivered mothers during the early 1990’s. Prior to that, mothers stayed in the hospital up to a week after delivery. Suddenly, they were discharged in 24-48 hours forced to face challenges, such as breastfeeding, without help or adequate support.

“Our goal is to ease the worry which can often accompany bringing home a newborn by offering timely advise and creative solutions,” says Maria, “resulting in a positive experience for everyone involved.”

Our trained professionals understand the unique needs of each mother and baby, mindfully guiding them through physical issues such as discomfort, milk supply, infant weight gain, twins/triplets, special need infants,  sleep, starting solid foods, pumping, working and finally weaning. As well as all the emotional issues surrounding this tremendous life-altering change.

Known as the tri-state area’s leading experts in lactation and infant/mother       care, we teach mothers how to:
  • Achieve the best latch possible,                                                             supporting the mother so that she can                                                           repeat this on her own at home.
  • Tell the difference between a baby's                                                         sucking and actually getting milk.
  • Recognize early feeding cues and                                                                 knowing when baby has really had                                                               enough.
  • Relax so that the mother and the baby                                                               may enjoy a relaxed and positive                                                       breastfeeding experience.
  • In our warm and relaxed
environment, we will listen to the mother,
      help diagnose her breastfeeding concerns,
treat her pain or milk supply issues, and
help her to prevent future problems.

Tethered Oral Tissues Symposium NYC:
"Connecting the Dots in TOTs"

"We met you just about a year ago, when my son was 4 days old. I was a scared, constantly crying, worried, and in pain new mother who was just trying to fake it until I could make it. I had no clue what I was doing or if I was doing any of it right. Making the call to you that day one year ago, and sitting with you and talking to you, literally was one of the best things I did all year. You made me feel so much better, not just about my breastfeeding journey, but about motherhood in general. You helped me know that the ways I was feeling were ok and that I really could do it. After meeting with you those few times last year, I was set back on course and began to feel comfortable and happy as a mother. Throughout this past year, my husband and I referred to you countless times. When breastfeeding patterns changed or when our son Josh would act different or not eat as much or do something a little worrisome....we'd often say to each other "what would Maria say?" You gave us so much more help and guidance than you could ever even truly know. So basically, what I'm trying to say is thank you! Thank you for your listening ears, for your supportive voice, and for just being there to help. My husband and I appreciate you and are forever grateful to you for the ways you helped us in those scary, dark, and terrifying first days of parenthood. Because of you, I was able to breastfeed my son for eleven and a half months. I didn't think I'd make it past day 4. But even more than that, because of you I was able to embrace and truly enjoy motherhood! I now have a beautiful, healthy, walking, babbling, happy one year old boy. I hope you know how important the work you do is and how much it helps. You probably don't even remember me, but I will never forget you! Thank you so very much for everything! "
